I see... That's odd!
Ok i'm not sure if the problem could be this one but do you think that the
third pack have much more levels of in its tree.
Meaning,

root/
root/xx
root/yy
root/xx/zz....
and so on...

There might be a problem with java itself when the indepth is too big... i'm
not sure.

Have you tried to leave only the third pack ?
Does it do the same ?

Thanks for your quick replies guys (this mailing list moves fast! :) )..

The JRE version I'm using to run the install is 1.4.2_04, and the number of
files are:

Pack   Files    Folders
1         86       9
2         1809    582
3         1345    98

.being the third pack the slow one. Strange, considering the second pack
has more files and folders.. I forgot to tell you that the machine runs the
installator with about 200 Mb of free memory, and also I've noticed that
multiple subprocesses (also shown as "java" by ps) are being created from
time to time.  Dunno if that info has anything to do..
