[izpack-users] JDKPathPanel on Mac

I can not agree with you, that an OS independent Installer should not have a dependency to OS dependent components.

Every Windows installer MUST in every case write to the registry, at least to place the Uninstaller information.
If it does not, it is just a better file copy tool, but not an installer. Times are over, where you could just do what you want when installing. Our customers expect some common behavior from our Software and this includes to be windows compliant.

Maybe IzPAck should write different Installers for different Platforms, like other OS independent installers do (InstallAnywhere for example). In this case, it could deliver launchers along with the Window's installer & Uninstaller.

But again, this requires a lot of work to do..

Regards
Markus

Hi Greg,
it is simple a try to get a default value.
The best way on Windows will be to look into the registry, but this dependency should not be exist in a OS independant installer.
Therefore the execute and scan of the output of the VM called with -version.
I never use it without a min and max version for the VM.

Cheers

Klaus
